چکیده

Background:In anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), the two most frequently used materials are allografts polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages. The aim of study was to compare functional radiological outcomes cages with iliac crest in decompression (ACDF) patients symptomatic Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM).Methods:In this cohort study, we included 70 (35 each group) CSM having degenerative disc disease who were planned for ACDF from Jan-2017 Jan-2021 Rawalpindi Medical University. All procedures performed under general anesthesia supine position, standard technique all patients. Anterior locked plates fixation PEEK or inter-vertebral space. Radiologic determined till 6 months after surgery. Results:The baseline characteristics similar between groups. Mean Modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (MJOA) score at 06 months’ follow-up same groups; 14.16±4.30 group A 13.54±3.24 B (p-value 0.49). Disc space height also 10.01±0.67 mm versus 10.11±0.70 0.54). Fusion rate final 31 (88.6%) 30 (85.7%) 0.72).Conclusion:PEEK have radiologic comparison ileal allografts. So, can be as a successful alternative will help reduce donor site morbidity longer surgical times associated graft harvesting.

Anterior Cervical Interbody Fusion Using a Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Cage Device and Local Autograft Bone

A nterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has been performed with various techniques and devices for many years. Autologous iliac crest grafts were initially used for the Cloward and Robinson and Smith techniques, but because of iliac crest graft site complications (eg, pain, infection, fracture, dystrophic scarring), the procedure was generally superseded by allograft implants. These imp...

Bioabsorbable self-retaining PLA/nano-sized β-TCP cervical spine interbody fusion cage in goat models: an in vivo study

STUDY DESIGN This is an experimental animal study. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to compare an anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion of a novel polylactide/nano-sized β-tricalcium phosphate (PLA/nβ-TCP) bioabsorbable self-retaining cervical fusion cage (BCFC) with an autologous bone graft and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages. BACKGROUND Although PLA cervical cages h...

Correlation of Clinical and Radiological Outcome After Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion With a Polyetheretherketone Cage

Background Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage is considered as the gold standard for patients with cervical disc disease. However, there are limited in vivo data on the impact of ACDF on the cervical kinematics and its association with patient-reported clinical outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of altered cervic...

Subsidence and Nonunion after Anterior Cervical Interbody Fusion Using a Stand-Alone Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Cage

BACKGROUND The purposes of the present study are to evaluate the subsidence and nonunion that occurred after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion using a stand-alone intervertebral cage and to analyze the risk factors for the complications. METHODS Thirty-eight patients (47 segments) who underwent anterior cervical fusion using a stand-alone polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage and an autologo...

Empty polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cages in anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion (ACDF) show slow radiographic fusion that reduces clinical improvement: results from the prospective multicenter “PIERCE-PEEK” study

BACKGROUND Anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a well-established surgical treatment for radiculopathy and myelopathy. Previous studies showed that empty PEEK cages have lower radiographic fusion rates, but the clinical relevance remains unclear. This paper's aim is to provide high-quality evidence on the outcomes of ACDF with empty PEEK cages and on the relevance of radiographic ...
